Are you seriously unhappy with your smile, and have issues that go beyond a simple procedure? Then dental implants may be right for you! Dental implants can transform your entire look. They are durable, permanent and long-lasting. With dental implants, you can eat your favorite foods, chew gum, brush your teeth and rest assured that your smile is situated firmly in place!

Who is a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Dental implants are ideal for people missing one or more teeth who are looking for a permanent solution. Since dental implants are intimately connected to the gum, an ideal candidate will have healthy gums with now decay or periodontal disease present. It is also important that a candidate has good bone density so that the implant will be adequately supported. Overall good oral health is also import in determining wether or not a person can receive dental implants. Even if you think you may not be a perfect candidate for dental implants, it is important to come in for a consultation!

How It Works

Dental implants are surgically placed in your jaw bone. They act as the “root” of the missing tooth. These anchors are made up of titanium and a few other materials, and are screw like posts. Though many people are apprehensive of having something placed into their bone, the implants are completely safe and eventually your own bone will grow and join together to heal tightly around the implant.Since the healing process takes time and patience, there can sometimes be a waiting period between when the anchor is placed and when a prosthetic or permanent tooth can be placed. This typically takes between three and six months.

Here are the steps of implant placement, as described by the  American Dental Association (ADA).

  • Surgical placement of the implant by a qualified dental professional.
  • Healing time for “osseointegration,” allowing the bone to grow around the implant.
  • Placing of the artificial tooth or teeth.

According to the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), 500,000 American adults receive dental implants each year. With proper oral hygiene, and placement from an experience professional, dental implants have a 98 percent success rate. Care of Dental Implants

Surprisingly, the care of dental implants is actually incredibly easy! There is really no specialized care once the implants are properly placed, and you can carry on your typical hygiene routine. Brushing and flossing twice a day and regular trips to visit the dentist are easy ways to maintain the upkeep of your implants and your overall dental hygiene.

Dental Costs

One of the most common questions we receive surrounds the cost of dental implants. This cost can vary from person to person depending on the circumstances, but the average cost is between $1000 to $3000. It is important to remember that since a dental implant is something that will remain in your mouth for years to come, they need to be strong and durable. It’s not worth it to use cheap materials that will ultimately result in implant failure. Since this is a surgical procedure, years of training, knowledge, and experience are necessary for the dentist placing your implant. Lucky for you, here at Advanced Dental Arts of Tampa, Wesley Chapel, Lakeland, Citrus Park and New Port Richey, we have all of those things!
