You Don’t Need to Live With Missing Teeth
Losing teeth to injury, disease, or decay is very upsetting and frustrating. From difficulty eating to embarrassment in social situations, there are drawbacks to living with missing teeth! Fortunately, dentures make it possible to obtain a fully functional set of teeth that look and feel natural. Complete and Partial Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth and their surrounding gum tissue.
Thanks to advanced technology, dentures are no longer clunky, unreliable devices! They are now realistic, attractive, and functional appliances that efficiently resolve the problem of tooth loss. Partial and complete dentures are both available to restore the appearance and oral function of just a few or many lost teeth. Advanced Dental Arts of Tampa, Wesley Chapel, Citrus Park, Carrollwood, Lakeland, and New Port Richey is committed to delivering beautiful and customized dentures. Our work will naturally enhance your smile and leave you feeling confident!
Complete Dentures: Conventional and Immediate
We can utilize complete dentures when no teeth remain in the mouth. A high-tech plastic base replicates gum tissue and supports a full set of durable, natural-looking teeth. Dentures are designed to stay in place by forming a seal with the gums, which allows them to be removed at any time.
Complete dentures are available in two different forms: conventional and immediate. Conventional dentures aren’t placed until all teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed. This usually occurs over 8 to 12 weeks. Immediate dentures are made before extraction so that they can be utilized as soon as we remove the teeth. This method makes it possible to have a set of teeth during the healing process. However, we may need to adjust immediate dentures over the few months they are used. This is because the gum tissues shrink and change as they heal.
Partial Dentures
While complete dentures help patients who need all teeth replaced, partial dentures replace a smaller number of teeth using the same type of device. We design the smaller base to match the color of the gums, and create the teeth to closely resemble existing teeth. There are a few different techniques used to install partial dentures, which can be permanent or removable. Dr. Kulangara and the professionals at Advanced Dental Arts will work with you to determine the best partial denture for your exact oral needs.
Adjusting to New Dentures
Just like with a new pair of shoes, it can take time to adjust to dentures. The dentures may feel strange, loose, and even a bit uncomfortable. This is because the muscles of the tongue and cheek need to strengthen to keep them in place. It’s very common for increased saliva flow and irritation to occur during this period of acclimation. Eating with new dentures may take practice, and it is best to begin with soft foods that are cut into small pieces.
It’s possible that pronouncing certain words will also take practice. This is especially true if you have a full set of dentures and need to relearn how to speak with all teeth in place. All of this is very normal and you can resolve the issues with time, patience, and practice! Dr. Kulangara and our highly qualified associates provide support and expert dental attention through the entire process! We want to give you the most satisfaction with your new set of teeth.
