Florida Invisalign - Clear Aligners

What Are Invisalign Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners are removable orthodontic devices made from transparent plastic materials that adjust your teeth without the metal “hardware” traditionally associated with braces. Our Tampa based team will take precise electronic measurements of your smile and create custom aligners for the specific alignment of your new smile.

Clear aligners come in sets that will be changed typically every 1-2 weeks. They are meant to be worn at all times, ideally 22 hours outside of eating, cleaning, or rigorous sports activity.

How is Invisalign® Different Than Other Clear Aligners?

If you’ve done any research into clear aligners, you’ve likely heard of Invisalign. But do you know what makes it stand out? Here are some reasons we believe Invisalign is the best brand of clear aligners:

Imaging

As an Invisalign provider, we have access to the Itero scanners. This means your doctor can map out your new smile using 3D images. Not only does this help them customize your treatment plan, but you get a preview of the results.

SmartForce Attachments

In addition to the aligners, your Invisalign plan may include SmartForce Attachments- small, tooth-colored shapes attached to your teeth that serve as powerful handles for the aligners to gently push on and apply force to move the right direction.

Vivera® retainer system

Once your Invisalign treatment is done, you may need to secure your smile with a retainer. Vivera retainers are clear and discreet, just like the aligners themselves.

When Are Clear Aligners Used?

Overcrowded teeth

When there isn’t enough room teeth to fit properly, they become crowded and can overlap or twist. Clear aligners open up more space in the mouth during your treatment and once it’s done there will be less hard to reach areas to brush/floss.

Widely spaced teeth

Clear aligner trays slowly push teeth closer together to eliminate wide spaces that may be causing issues with your smile.

TMJ treatments

Moving teeth to the correct position may alleviate some pressure on the joints and help with discomfort from TMJ.

Improving Bite

Clear aligners can help correct cross bites, underbites, overbites, and open bites by closing gaps and adjusting teeth location.

How Does Clear Aligner/Invisalign Treatment Work?

To start, our expert team here at Advanced Dental Arts will make impressions or digital scans of your teeth and current smile. The orthodontist will then create a treatment plan custom-made for your needs. You will receive a series of plastic, clear aligners meant to fit around and put gentle pressure on your teeth to reposition them and correct any bite issues.

The total amount of aligners you will end up wearing will vary based on your treatment plan, but on average is each set will be worn for 1 to 2 weeks before they are changed for next one. You will likely have a check-up appointment every 6 to 8 weeks during this process.

Similar to braces, a patient will need to wear a retainer to maintain the new position of your teeth once the plan is completed. Invisalign utilizes the Vivera® retainer system to help secure your smile discreetly.

Do I Qualify For Invisalign?

Only one of our Tampa based doctors can recommend if clear aligners, and specifically Invisalign, are right for you. But here are a few basic qualifiers:

Level of correction needed

Clear aligners are a great solution for minor crowding, overbites, gaps, and more. If your situation is more complex such as a misaligned jaw, you may need traditional braces. Our team can do imaging to determine if your case is too complex for Invisalign.

Disciplined personality

Since the aligners are removable, a patient must be committed for treatment to be successful and leave them in as much as possible, even if they are experiencing some minor discomfort.

Age

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends a child gets screened for any orthodontic issues at age 7, although they can be seen sooner if needed. At this age, a child likely has a mix of adult and baby teeth and may be eligible to begin treatment, but this will vary based on their specific situation. One of our doctors can determine what age your child should begin orthodontic treatment.

What are the benefits of Clear Aligners vs Braces?

Discreet

Many people prefer the transparent look of clear aligners over metal braces, as people can not see them unless they are up close. Invisalign allows you to unlock your new smile while still showing off your current one.

More comfortable

Unlike metal braces, clear aligners adjust the alignment of your teeth more gradually - without uncomfortable wires and brackets. The plastic material is smoother and gentle on your gums and cheeks.

Speed

Often, using clear aligners is faster than traditional braces. A braces treatment plan is often 18 months but could last 2 years or more, while the average clear aligner treatment is 12 months. Some Invisalign treatments are done in 6 months.

No eating restrictions

With metal braces, there are foods that are difficult to eat, as well as just not recommended because of their interactions with the hardware. Since clear aligners can be removed, you do not need to change your eating habits while straightening your teeth.
